American Legion Auxiliary
Department of Indiana
Legislative
Pam Shook Chairwoman
Despite these trying times District chairwomen have done a great job reporting Legislative within the units. Corresponding has been done through mail and email this year.
District Legislative Chairwomen reported sending units the information to sign up for the Legion Legislative alerts.
Members voted either absentee or in person during the primary and general election. Unit and district members worked the polls and felt rewarded by the voter turn-out.
Members contacted their Senators and Representatives with issues concerning our Veterans and Families. These members received responses, and many posted them on their face book site for members to view.
Members took the time to fill out surveys sent to them by their State Representatives and received responses back either thanking them or asking further questions.
Members signed petitions in favor of legislative issues for Veterans and Families and sent them forward to their representatives.
Example of some of the bills the American Legion Auxiliary supported the American Legion;
HR 2898 “Buddy Check”, HR 7111 “Veterans Economic Recovery Act”, HR 553; S622 “Eliminate Retiree Spousal Benefit Indemnity Compensation offset (Widows Tax)”, HR 7566 “Transfer of surplus computers for Veterans use”.
As we continue to adjust our lives to our current conditions, we the members of The American Legion Auxiliary will continue to participate in supporting The American Legion with Legislative issues and encourage our communities in supporting our Veterans and Families. That is who we are and what we do!
